Flood Insurance
Flooding can have devastating effects on communities. Even though flooding can seriously damage a home, flooding is rarely covered by regular homeowners insurance.
Visit the Iowa Division of Insurance's Post Disaster Resources page for disaster-assistance resources.
The National Flood Insurance Program partners with private insurance companies to offer flood insurance options. To purchase NFIP flood insurance, you must live in a community that takes part in the NFIP. While many communities in Iowa take part in the program, not all do.
To find out if your community participates in the NFIP, visit FEMA’s Community Status Book.
FEMA's Community Status Book Report page for Iowa is broken down into participating communities and not participating communities. The table shows up in small font. To increase the size of the font, use the zoom function in your browser. You can also view the Community Status Book Report page for Iowa as a PDF document.
If your community participates in the NFIP, you can call your local insurance agent. If you don’t have an insurance agent or your agent doesn’t sell flood insurance, visit the NFIP insurance provider locator.
